Day 6 one touch from the king

Now that the dust has settled somewhat on the Trump vs Zelensky debacle in the Whitehouse I find myself reflecting on what really happened that day. Lots has been said about the politics, but what spiritual lessons can we learn?
The first thing that springs to mind is the nature of leadership. It's easy to say Trump is a rude, arrogant fascist and Zelensky is a saint. But the truth is that God has allowed both these men to be in their office as president for such a time as this. Their styles are very different but both are elected by people who think each is representing the best interests of their nation. God looks at the heart. And only He knows what's in the heart of Donald and Volodymr. Had TV cameras been in the temple on the day Jesus made a whip and drove out the money lenders...... Don't get me wrong, I dislike Trump with a passion. But I'm not sure he is a terrible leader. I waver between thinking he's an evil genius or a deranged idiot. But what I think about him is irrelevant, it's what God thinks that counts. All I'm supposed to do is pray for those in leadership. Which I hardly ever do. So I'm really not in any position to criticise.
Secondly, unity. It took an outrageous outburst from Trump and Vance to galvanise the western world into speaking with one voice in support of Ukraine. I can't help but feel that there was something hugely spiritually significant about the string of messages, tweets and speeches made by so many foreign leaders that day. The uniformity of support was amazing. God cannot resist blessing the unity shown when leaders agree together. It's powerful. Something mighty will come of it. Watch that space.
Thirdly, humility. Zelensky, in the face of personal and professional attack, remained calm and gracious. He is a physically small man. He was a comedian before being a president. He has faced personal danger for three years and refused to distance himself from his troops or his people. He hasn't been trained for this role or this life but he has conducted himself nobly. The contrast with the arrogance of Trump could not be more stark. God says that when we humble ourselves He will lift us up. It's a spiritual principle. I don't think you need to be 'saved' for that principle to apply. Again, let's wait and see what God will do.
Lastly, the King.
Whenever the King pops up on the world stage I take note. God often speaks to me through 'royal' stuff.
The King invited Trump for a state visit the day before it all kicked off in the Whitehouse. There were immediate calls for the invitation to be withdrawn in the wake of the Zelensky meeting. But the King will not 'un-invite' Trump. That would be rude and somewhat petty. King Jesus doesn't withdraw His invitation to us when we behave badly. His hand is ever extended. His banqueting table is always ready for us. But we can't expect to sit at His table and not expect Him to talk to us about our mistakes. He wants our hearts and therefore will always challenge us when our motives and behaviour falls short. I'm pretty sure that when Trump arrives at King Charles's table there will be some firm but polite conversation about what is just and right and true.
Immediately after the debacle in the Whitehouse, Zelensky was in the UK for a pre-arranged meeting. What had probably not been in the plan was for him to meet the King. But he did. And I'll bet that meeting was suggested by Charles who, with huge wisdom and kindness knew exactly how that would be seen on the world stage. A smile and a handshake from an earthly King says so much more than words could say. Being acknowledged by King Jesus is our ultimate validation in the face of any hostility. One touch from the King changes everything.
