Day 34 Praying

How often do you pray for yourself?

Im  just wondering because today as my prayer request list fills up with other people, mostly older than me, Im thinking about ageing and decline.  Sorry to be so cheery (not) but we are all living longer and the likelihood of infirmity therefore increases.  So I think I need to be praying for myself every bit as much as I pray for other people.

Did you know that the Jews have a prayer they say when they are on the toilet.  😁  That might sound a bit ridiculous, but what they are doing is thanking God that they have a digestive system that works well and praying that it stays that way.  Here it is

Translation from the Hebrew probably renders it a bit clunky in English but this, I think, is a good prayer to pray.  And whilst we are at it, I think it is good to refute the words of the optician who tells you that after the age of 40 your eyesight will inevitably start to deteriorate.  Well excuse me, but no.  Deut 37;4 of Moses who was 120 when he died;   ' his eyes did not grow dim'.  Hooray! If God kept Moses from cataracts and needing glasses then He can do that for me.  And what about arthritis and osteoporosis and creaky bones?

Proverbs 3:7-8 states, "Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones".  ( see also Isaiah 58;11 and Psalm 34)

Im reminded of my wonderful friend Gladys who took the Psalm 34 verses about no bones being broken very literally.  Well into her eighties she would declare confidently that it didn't matter if she were to fall or end up on the floor because God had promised her that she wouldn't break any bones.  And despite a few trips and falls she never did . Whereas my Mum in her eighties lived in constant fear of falling, Gladys just trusted in Jesus that if she did fall she would be fine.

Psalm 73;26  God is the strength of my heart.    Let's hold onto this verse and believe that heart attacks will not be our portion as we grow old.

Isaiah  26;3  You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You.  This is a verse I particularly want to pray for myself as I worry a bit about my poor memory and the possibility of it getting worse as I get older.  But no.  I will fill my mind with Jesus and He will keep my mind at peace

Im sure there are lots of other verses you can think of that we can all take as daily medicine to ensure that as we get older we are not on other peoples prayer lists.  Have a great week everyone.
